Success isn’t a straight path. We don’t decide to start working on something and immediately see progress.
There are plenty of bumps in the road. And in the beginning, those bumps can feel huge—sometimes overwhelming. These are setbacks.
This is especially true with fitness and health. When we first start, it often feels like one step forward and two steps back. But here’s the thing: if we’re not taking that one step forward, we’re still losing those two steps back. In most cases, it’s more than just two.
The Truth About Inaction
Time doesn’t stop. And if we don’t take action to prioritize our health, our bodies and minds begin to deteriorate. That’s not opinion—it’s science. It’s called aging.
The good news? What we do as we age has a massive impact on how we feel and function. When we fuel our bodies properly and challenge them with movement—whether through CrossFit, personal training, or any structured fitness program—they respond by getting stronger.
The Journey Is Simple—But It’s Not Easy
The path to success isn’t complicated, but let’s be real—it’s tough in the beginning. Really tough.
At first, it might feel like every step forward comes with a step back. But if you stay with it, soon it’s 1.5 steps forward and only one back. Progress builds, and suddenly, you’re gaining ground.
The biggest challenge for most people is pushing through that early stage where it feels like nothing is changing.

Or: I’ve been working out more than ever and still haven’t lost weight, so why bother?

Here’s the truth: success isn’t linear—it’s compounding. This is especially true when it comes to your health and fitness. It takes time and consistency before you start seeing big wins. And that’s hard.

I heard a great quote last week:
“If something feels too hard to do, it just means the first step is too big.”
So start small. Put on your shoes and go for a walk. Do a sit-up. An air squat. Something—anything—you wouldn’t have done otherwise.
Then do it again tomorrow. And the next day. Eventually, you’ll increase your reps. You’ll find the best gym for your needs. You’ll achieve things you never thought possible.
