Fall’s here. The mornings are darker, the air’s colder, and for a lot of us, motivation starts to dip. If you’re feeling stuck, off-track, or like the progress you made this summer is slipping… this one’s for you.
If you only take one thing away from this:
The lows aren’t signs that you’re failing. They’re proof that you’re in it. The trick isn’t to avoid the dip—it’s learning how to meet it.
Let’s Talk About What Progress Really Feels Like
If you’ve been around the gym or followed any of my content, you know I’m a big believer that what we do with our health and fitness doesn’t just stay in the gym—it translates to the rest of life. Every time I speak on this stuff, that belief gets stronger.
Katie and I were recently in Columbus at a mastermind event with about a hundred top gym owners from around the world. One speaker broke down the stages of growth in business—and the way she laid it out hit so hard, I knew it applied to everything: relationships, parenting, work, and yeah… the gym.
She compared it to the stock market. If you zoom out far enough, the chart trends up. But zoom in? It’s a mess. Ups, downs, sideways slides. Big wins, big drops. And yet, the direction is still up. That’s how growth actually works—everywhere.
Why Fall Matters More Than New Year’s
Right now—this stretch of fall into winter—this is where most people start to feel that dip.
Energy isn’t as high. The sun’s gone before dinner. It’s harder to get out of bed. Your kids are back in school and somehow also in a thousand activities. Here in Oregon, it’s already wet and gloomy—and that alone can be enough to knock your routine sideways.
This is the part most people don’t plan for.
But this is also the part that actually builds resilience. When the early gains slow down, when you’re not feeling super motivated, when just showing up feels like the win—that’s when you’re practicing the stuff that lasts.

It’s one thing to feel stuck and think, “This isn’t working.”
It’s another thing entirely to go, “Ah, this is the hard part—I’m supposed to be here.”
That mindset shift changes everything.
You’ll still have to adjust—maybe it’s a new workout time, a vitamin D supplement, or just checking in with your coach. But instead of spiraling into “why am I like this,” you get to pause and go, “Alright, what does this season of growth need from me?”
That’s not quitting. That’s maturing. That’s leveling up.
What I Hope You Remember
- Progress isn’t linear. If you’re struggling, that’s part of the climb.
- This time of year will test you—and that’s not a bad thing.
- You can adapt. You’ve done it before. You’re doing it now.
- You don’t have to do it alone.
And if all else fails? Just remember: if you’re thinking about showing up, you’re already doing more than you think.
Let’s keep going.
