Life is such a fragile thing. And it’s amazing to me how much I forget that especially because I try to be pretty aware of the fact that tomorrow is never guaranteed.
Nonetheless I think I go through life like most of us; knowing at some point I’m going to kick the bucket but it seems so far away. And after all I’m the main character in my story, and the main character always makes it to a happy ending. Or at least most of the time. Right?
And you are the main character of your story and I’d imagine share a similar feeling of day to day life.
It isn’t till we hear those stories, or see friends or family or loved ones close to us that die younger than they should. Or have unexpected near death scares that the reality of how fragile life is sinks in.
Recently I’ve seen a friend avoid death’s doorstep narrowly twice and another two people not be so lucky.
I’m not being morbid and I’m not trying to scare anyone. But I’m not sure we talk enough about the fact that tomorrow isn’t guaranteed. That not only should we really be spending our time doing things we enjoy and love with people we enjoy and love BUT also that there’s things we can do every day that although they don’t guarantees long life, they drastically improve the probability we live to ripe old age. AND enjoy that time as well in a healthy, happy body.
Work out and diet. Move your body, challenge it and fuel it with healthy food. It’s simple but not easy. Actually it seems to be one of the hardest things. A quick Google search will tell you nearly 75% of American adults are overweight….. Let me repeat that NEARLY 75% OF ADULT AMERICANS ARE OVERWEIGHT.
That means 3 out of every 4 people are overweight. I’m not here to make anyone feel bad. I’m actually hoping to help motivate you. Because there’s something you can do. There is ALWAYS something you can do.
Start moving your body more, start eating the proper amounts of healthier foods. Don’t know where to start? Ask for help!
Another age-old common trait most of us humans share is to think we have to or need to be able to do things on our own. And that just ain’t the case. Or if you choose to go that route it’s gonna make life a whole lot harder.
Find people that know what they are talking about. That CARE ABOUT YOU. That believe in you more than you believe in yourself as you start the journey.
And remember if fear is what’s keeping you from starting, think about the other fears; the things that may happen if you don’t start.
You are stronger than you know. You are more capable than you know. The only thing holding you back is you. It’s always been that way and it will always be that way. Same goes for me.
But don’t confuse that with you need to do this on your own because you don’t.
We recently had a member start at the gym and after only 5 months here’s the change she’s seen in herself:
“Definitely my discipline and overall health have changed. But it has also changed the way I see myself. I did a hard thing, which was starting something I didn’t think I was capable of doing and sticking to it.”
Wow. And if that doesn’t seem groundbreaking to you at first re-read it. Now imagine all the other things in her life, present and in the future, she will come across that seem hard or undoable that she’ll be able to do if she keeps building this skill. Let alone what her health will look like in two, three, four decades!
The choice is always yours. Don’t change everything, you don’t have to fix it all at once, or lose all the weight but you do have to start.
And if you don’t know how, and you need some guidance, some support and some love along the way. The first step is as simple as a text or email.
