At 19 years old, I sat in a doctor’s office and heard words that changed everything: “You won’t be able to have children. And if you keep living this way, you probably won’t live past 39.”

I remember the anger. The fear. The shame. I remember leaving that office furious at the doctor for saying it out loud, when really, I was furious with myself for letting things get so far.

I was 230 pounds, emotionally eating, taking care of everyone else while ignoring my own health, and completely lost. In that moment, something inside me refused to accept the life that had just been handed to me. I decided I had to fight for something better.

That fight wasn’t easy. It wasn’t clean. It wasn’t a straight line.
I went from 250 pounds down to 200, then to 112, swinging from one extreme to the other—binge eating, punishing myself with workouts, living on almost no food, and obsessing over my weight. At one point, friends pulled me aside to ask if I was okay, because they thought I was anorexic.

And the truth? They weren’t wrong.

What I’ve learned over these 20 years is that health is not a number. It’s not the size of your pants or the look in the mirror. Health is being able to show up fully in your life. It’s being present with my kids. It’s having energy, strength, and joy that go way beyond appearance.

Yes, today I’m a gym owner, a mentor, a nutrition coach, and a mother of two. But my story isn’t about perfection. It’s about persistence. It’s about making one choice, then another, then another—even when it’s hard, even when I stumbled, even when judgment came from every direction.

If there’s one thing I want you to hear, it’s this:
You are not defined by your past.
You are not limited by what someone told you you could or couldn’t do.
You are not stuck unless you choose to stop fighting for something better.

I’m living proof that the predictions don’t have to come true. I was told I wouldn’t see 39. In just a few months, I’ll celebrate my 39th birthday as a mother of two, stronger than ever—not just in body, but in spirit.

This is my story. But more importantly, it could be yours too.

I share it in full on this week’s podcast episode of Formidable is Family. If anything in this story sparked something in you—even the tiniest thought of, “Maybe I could change too”—then I’d love for you to listen.

Because if there’s one message I hope you take with you today, it’s this: It’s never too late.
