Find “The Gold” in your life. And don’t let your inner narratives limit you health, happiness or potential.

I’ve been actively spending more time in my life trying to find what I call “The Gold.” This is all the amazing things that happen around me; it could be nature, it could be in other people, and it could be in and of myself. You could call these the little miracles all around us. Why is this important for our health and fitness? Bear with me and I promise you’ll see.

What’s been really amazing to me as I start looking for these little miracles is how many of them there are around me—and how normal it is to overlook them and not celebrate them.

As a coach and a trainer, I have been noticing tons of them in our clients and athletes. And I also notice how quick many of us are to breeze over “The Gold” and go straight to the things we need to work on and get better at. It’s an unhealthy obsession most of us have. We laser focus on the bad, or where we need to improve, and hardly celebrate, reflect, or sit in the amazing things we do.

Part of my role as a coach is to help people celebrate themselves. Not in the “oh look at me I’m so great” way, but in a real self-love and self-appreciation way.

I recently had a woman respond to an email we send out as new people start. It asked, “What’s changed in your life since you joined Formidable Strength and Conditioning?” Her response:

“Definitely my discipline and overall health. But it has also changed the way I see myself. I did a hard thing, which was starting something I didn’t think I was capable of doing and sticking to it.”

Read that bold part again. That is literally a life-changing thought.

And so many of us have thoughts about what we can and can’t do. About what we are or are not capable of. And we forget that they are just thoughts. We think they are facts of life: “This is just who I am, guess I won’t try doing this.” Or, “Of course I tried that and couldn’t do it, just like I thought.”

WE CREATE OUR WORLD EVERY DAY WE WAKE UP!

No, I’m not saying you can wake up and think some different thoughts and change your life with that alone. It won’t happen overnight, it won’t happen in a year, and it certainly will involve hard work. But you bet your bottom dollar if you work every day on who you are BEING and on what your thoughts are about what you can and can’t do, AND you act on those thoughts—your life will change in ways you never thought possible.

Pay attention to all the gold around you. Pay attention to the little miracles. Celebrate your wins. And understand you can create the you, and the world, you want to live in.

That’s some big-level stuff, but it starts small. Walk more. Sit in silence more. Enjoy the little miracles in your life more. I guarantee it will make you both happier and healthier.
