Just Show Up: Why Habits Matter (Especially During the Holidays)

My family’s started pulling out the Christmas stuff, and with little ones in the house, this season is extra fun. But let’s be real: it can also be extra hard when it comes to staying consistent with your health habits.

Between travel, gifts, food, family logistics, and maybe a drink or three… the holidays bring both joy and stress. It’s easy for workouts to fall by the wayside. That’s why today, I want to talk about something that matters way more than perfection: habits.

“The magic isn’t in crushing a perfect workout. It’s in showing up—even if all you do is sit and sip your coffee.”

This morning, I had a 5am and 6am session. As I was walking out around 7, I saw one of our members—he wasn’t signed up for class, just sitting on a bench with his coffee. I asked him how he was doing, and he said, “I just did some PT yesterday for my neck and shoulder—they’re sore, so I just came in to hang out.”

And honestly? I loved that.

I’ve been saying this for years: if you make it a habit to come to the gym—even if it’s just to sit on the ground or ride a bike for two minutes—your body starts to expect it. That rhythm builds consistency. And from consistency comes progress. Not overnight, but over time.

This member could’ve stayed in bed. But instead, he honored his routine. And let’s be honest—it’s way easier to maintain a habit than to start over from scratch.

So as we head into the holidays, remember: good habits are just as hard to break as bad ones. If your usual routine is four days a week but you scale back to two? That’s not failure. That’s strategy. What matters is the intentionality—not letting the season knock you off course just because you didn’t make a plan.

Whether your goal is to train hard or just not lose momentum, now is the time to set your rhythm—not January. Start small. Be kind to yourself. And if you’re stuck, come talk to us. We’re here to help.

Wishing you a warm, joyful, and habit-honoring holiday season!
