Yesterday we talked about how important the story we tell ourselves really is.
Today I have a real-world example of that.
I was working with a client this morning whose life outside the gym has been really busy.
He’s got three girls and runs his own business, so there are lots of things and people demanding his time, like many of you.
He typically works out in our group classes 3–5 days a week at 6 AM. However, over the last month or so, with more demands from work, he just wasn’t making it in to his workouts.
It’s a story that happens time and time again. And 9 out of 10 people in this instance make the decision to pause their gym membership while things are busy, with the intention of starting back up in a couple of months when life slows down.
The story they are telling themselves is some version of “my health can wait until everything else doesn’t need my attention as much”.
But here’s the thing, out of those 9 people who stop and plan to come back, maybe 1 actually does.
Because life doesn’t really ever slow down. Or at least not in the time frame you think it will. And once you start putting your own health and fitness on the back burner, it can become a habit.
This member knew this to be true for him, so instead he pivoted to doing 1 personal training session every 2 weeks and adding in 2–3 short at-home workouts each week.
His story is that his health will always be important and especially when things get hard he needs to prioritize it. And that makes all the difference in the world.
Yes, he’s doing less for his workouts, but the important thing is he is proving his commitment to himself even when life gets busy.
Our habits and our commitment are what keep us accountable when things get tough (a good community and coaches also helps a ton!), and that’s a lot more important than just having a good routine when things are good.
The cool thing, though?
It’s never too late to start building those habits back up, and we make that easier than ever.
Come in for a No Sweat Intro. There’s no pressure to join our gym. Our only goal is to hear what you’re struggling with and help you take the next step forward.
Hopefully it’s with us, but either way, you’ll leave with a better direction on how to start.
